2009 JOAN CROCKER SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENT POSTED: April 20, 2009

Congratulations to Helen Beaird, Director, Student Employment Center, L. A. Trade Technology College! On March 13, 2009, she received the highest award from CPA, the Joan Crocker Service Award. Helen Beaird received a plaque and a $100 Macy's gift certificate at the Southern California Placement Association's (CPA) 2009 mini-conference at Citrus College, Glendora. Since 1974, the prestigious Joan Crocker Award has been given to those CPA members who show true commitment to the field of job development/job placement and dedication to CPA through their service and actions. The award is especially meaningful to Helen because she was acquainted with Joan Crocker, a Coordinator of Employment Services at L.A. City College. Helen has held CPA Board positions as V.P., South; Educational Representative, South; and Co-Chair of the 2008 CPA annual conference. She also has worked on a variety of other CPA conferences and regional meetings. Currently, (and for many years), Helen serves as a member of the California Community Colleges' Chancellor's Office Statewide Advisory Committee for Work-based Learning and Employment Services. Helen progressed from Job Placement Interviewer in 1971 to her position as Director of the Student Employment Center at L. A. Trade Technology College, from 1987 - present. After receiving her MBA (1998) and MA in Education and Clinical Psychology (2003), Helen also worked as a general counselor at L.A. Trade Technology College. She is currently working towards her Clinical Psychology license. CPA appreciates Helen for all of her hard work and dedication!
